Why People Were Protesting At Bokaro Steel Plant

The group of people, under the banner of BSL Visthapit Apprentice Sangh, were staging a protest near the steel plant in support of their demands, including employment, a police officer said, as reported by news agency PTI.

According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Bokaro City, Alok Ranjan, the demonstrators were obstructing employees, who were heading to the plant during the agitation.

The CISF personnel deployed there had urged them to allow the employees to enter the steel plant, but when they did not comply, the CISF personnel resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse them. Two demonstrators sustained injuries in the incident, the police officer said.

The injured are being treated at the Bokaro General Hospital, the DSP said. Bokaro MLA Sweta Singh claimed that one person died in the incident. The report, however, said that the police did not confirm this, PTI reported.
