In Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, six workers were injured, one critically, when a section of an under-construction railway overbridge collapsed.

Six people were injured after a portion of a railway overbridge collapsed in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri on Sunday.

Six workers were injured in the incident and one of them is in critical condition and has been shifted to the district hospital for treatment, reported IANS.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sanjay Chaturvedi said a section of an under-construction railway overbridge collapsed injuring six people. "They have been admitted to the district hospital for treatment," Chaturvedi told IANS.

90-Degree Turn Bridge In Bhopal

The state was in the headlines earlier this week for a railway overbridge (RoB) in the capital city of Bhopal with a sharp 90-degree turn raising concern for the safety of the commuters.

The images of the RoB quickly went viral on social media, before the bridge -- built near Aishbagh Stadium -- was officially launched.

While many raised concerns over its potential risk to the commuters, officials associated with its construction argue that they had no other option than building it this way given the paucity of land and the presence of a metro rail station nearby.

Social media users said that this kind of turn can lead to accidents as vehicles may find it difficult to negotiate the turn due to the angle.

However, Public Works Department (Bridge Department) Chief Engineer V D Verma said, "Due to the metro station, there is limited availability of land at the point. Due to the lack of land, there was no other option."

"The purpose of the RoB is to connect the two colonies." Only small vehicles will run on this overbridge, he said, adding that heavy vehicles will not be allowed to use it," he told PTI.
