A 16-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly abducted and raped in a moving car on Tuesday night in Moradabad near Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The accused, Mohd Rashid, was arrested on Friday evening after the survivor identified him through an ID card on his car's dashboard.

The girl narrated the incident to her family, following which a complaint was filed at a local police station, and the 30-year-old accused was nabbed, a report by the Times of India said.

Rashid works as a taxi driver and the car in which the incident took place was borrowed, Moradabad (rural) SP Kunwar Akash Singh told TOI. The car has been seized by the police.

The girl's father works as a labourer. In the complaint filed by him, he said that the incident took place when he was at work and his wife was busy harvesting surgarcane in the fields. The 16-year-old had gone to dispose of garbage outside the house when Rashid allegedly arrived at the spot in an SUV and dragged her inside before assaulting her, the report said.

The minor also told the police that Rashid had filmed the assault, and two hours later, abandoned her near a crematorium located outside her village.

The accused has been booked under BNS section 64 (rape), 137-2 (kidnapping), and 352 (intentional insult to prove breach of peace). Other relevant provisions of the SC/ST Act and POCSO Act have also been listed in the FIR.

"Once the girl informed her family about the incident, they acted immediately and approached us. We are also investigting whether others were involved. The car has been seized and Rashid's mobile phone is being examined for evidence," Singh told TOI.
