'I Wear A Roodraksh': How Sanjay Roy Pleaded 'Not Guilty' In RG Kar Doctor Rape & Murder Case

RG Kar Rape & Murder Case Verdict: Accused Sanjay Roy has been convicted in the Kolkata rape & murder case. He would now either get life imprisonment or be hanged till death.

Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the Kolkata RG Kar doctor's rape and murder, has been convicted of the crimes that occurred on August 9. The case was heard in the court of Justice Anirban Das. High drama unfolded during the hearing at Sealdah Court on Saturday.

Justice Anirban Das said: "You have been found guilty of murdering and sexually assaulting a woman doctor on duty. You may be awarded life imprisonment or capital punishment."

To this, Sanjay Roy said: "I am not guilty. I have been framed." However, Justice Das was not convinced. He said: "You have been found guilty as per the evidence presented before this court. You will have to accept the punishment."

Sanjay Roy then said: "I only said what the IPS officers asked me to say... I wear a Roodraksh mala (necklace). If I am lying and indeed commit the crime, why did the Roodraksh not fall off? Please listen to me. I said what the IPS officers told me to."

The judge was unmoved and said: "We shall listen to what you have to say on Monday. The punishment will also be pronounced the same day."

Even when he was being escorted back to the jail, he was seen behaving aggressively.
