Waterlogging Woes In Noida, Gurugram As Heavy Rain Lashes Delhi NCR, IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Heavy rainfall in Noida and Gurugram caused waterlogging, disrupting infrastructure and traffic. Residents expressed concerns about monsoon preparedness.

Incessant rainfall caused waterlogging in several parts of Noida and Gurugram on Sunday. Waterlogging has caused blockage of roads resulting in commuters facing trouble amid their movements. Traffic police were found helping the common people at various places and maintaining traffic while getting drenched during heavy rain and waterlogging.

Until 8.30 am, Gurugram has received 20.5 mm of rainfall on Sunday. The minimum temperature was 26.9 degrees Celsius, which was 0.2 notches lower than yesterday's 20.8 degrees Celsius, as per a TOI report.

The persistent issue of waterlogging has raised concerns about the NCR's preparedness for the monsoon season, prompting residents to call on authorities for immediate action to prevent future incidents. The 'Red Run Marathon' planned for Sunday in the Laser Valley of Gurugram to raise HIV awareness was cancelled due to the rain.

In addition to the national capital, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Haryana and Chandigarh. An IMD official stated, "Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely in southern Haryana over the next 24 hours. Active monsoon conditions will persist in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh for the next four to five days," as reported by TOI.

Rainfall affected traffic on Rohtak Road and Najafgarh Firni Road. Waterlogging and the breakdown of three cluster buses near Chhawla Stand on Najafgarh Road also contributed to the traffic disruption.

The IMD has issued a 'yellow' alert for heavy rain in East and West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh for Sunday. An 'orange' alert, indicating 'very heavy' rainfall, has been issued for Uttarakhand, along with a similar warning for East Rajasthan, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
