Meghalaya Murder Mystery: Raja Raghuvanshi's Autopsy Reveals 2 Head Injuries, Sharp Object Used

Raja Raghuvanshi's autopsy, conducted at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, revealed two head injuries caused by a sharp object.

Fresh details have emerged in the shocking murder of Indore-based tourist Raja Raghuvanshi, who was murdered in Meghalaya, where he had gone with his wife for their honeymoon. His body was discovered in a deep gorge near Weisawdong Falls in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills.

According to the autopsy conducted at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), the deceased sustained two significant head injuries caused by a sharp object, news agency PTI reported.

“There are two sharp cuts on the head of the deceased—one behind and one in the front,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said. He had earlier told PTI that the policehad saw two cuts on Raja's head during the inquest at the site, where his body was found.

Raghuvanshi had gone missing with his wife Sonam on May 23 during their honeymoon in the scenic Sohra region. Their abandoned scooter was found the following day, parked near a café along the Shillong-Sohra road.

Days later, his body was spotted using drone surveillance on June 2. Police also recovered a bloodstained machete near the body, which was believed to be the murder weapon. A raincoat similar to the one the couple was seen wearing earlier was also discovered in the nearby Mawkma village.

Wife Sonam Traced to UP, Surrenders Amid Growing Suspicions

The case took a dramatic turn on Monday after Sonam Raghuvanshi resurfaced in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district late at night and surrendered to the police after contacting her family via phone.

She was located at a roadside eatery, 'Kashi Dhaba', along the Varanasi-Ghazipur route. She was initially taken to Sadar Hospital for basic treatment before being shifted to a One Stop Centre, which provides assistance to women in distress.

Later, UP DGP confirmed Sonam surrendered at Nandganj police station and was subsequently taken into custody. Her sudden reappearance after days of being untraceable has deepened the mystery around the case as she had been missing even after her hsuband's body was found.

Contract Killing Angle Surfaces, Four Arrested

So far, police have arrested five individuals, including Sonam, for their involvement in the crime. Apart from Sonam, police have arrested three more men — Akash Rajput from UP's Lalitpur and two others from Indore. During interrogation, they alleged that Sonam had hired them to murder her husband.

A dhaba employee had claimed that Sonam had asked for a phone to call her parents in Indore. Following this, the Madhya Pradesh Police traced her location, and contacted UP Police, which led to Sonam's detention.

Meanwhile, a team of Meghalaya Police on Monday took Sonam into custody from the one-stop centre she was admitted to at around 6:30 PM. The process to procure a transit remand for her is underway, a police officer told PTI.

A Meghalaya Police SIT, headed by an SP and assisted by four DSPs, is probing the matter.
