Maharashtra Suspense: Final Talks As Shiv Sena Representative To Meet Fadnavis Ahead Of BJP Legislature Party Meeting

Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant is set to meet BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis to present proposals regarding the portfolio allocation in the to-be-formed Maharashtra government.

The suspense surrounding the formation of the new Maharashtra government and its cabinet members may soon be resolved, with Shiv Sena and BJP entering the final stages of discussions. Following initial conversations with Eknath Shinde in Delhi last week, regarding cabinet portfolio allocation and the Chief Minister's post, talks at the state level within the Mahayuti alliance have resumed.

ABP News has learned that Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant is set to meet BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis to present proposals regarding the oath-taking ceremony and portfolio allocation. This marks the first direct discussion between the two leaders since the November 23, 2024, Maharashtra Assembly election results.

Why The Discord So Far — Explained

Despite statements from caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who clarified that Shiv Sena would not be a "hurdle" in government formation and would accept decisions made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, the Shiv Sena faction led by Shinde has been pushing for a stronger and more favourable portfolio for their leader and party.

Former state minister Deepak Kesarkar emphasized that the assembly polls were fought under Shinde's leadership, and it is now up to the BJP's central leadership to decide how to maintain his stature. Kesarkar stressed that Shinde's contribution must be duly recognized.

New Maharashtra Govt: 11 Names From NCP In Mahayuti Cabinet

While the Shiv Sena and BJP engage in talks, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP remains relatively subdued. However, sources suggest that the NCP has already put forth a list of demands for the new cabinet. Ajit Pawar is expected to continue as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, with several other senior NCP leaders likely to secure ministerial positions. These include Aditi Tatkare, Chhagan Bhujbal, Dhananjay Munde, Anil Bhaidas Patil, Sanjay Bansode, and Narhari Zirwal. Additionally, new faces such as former mayor Sangram Jagtap and MLAs Indranil Naik and Sunil Shelke are also likely to be inducted into the cabinet.
