Earlier it was said that pilgrims, along with saints from various akharas from across the country are expected to arrive in large numbers to offer prayers on Maha Shivratri at the temple. On this occasion, the Naga akharas will also take out a grand procession, which will temporarily block general access through gate number 4 of the temple. This is likely to increase the waiting time for regular devotees, Kashi Vishwanath Temple's Chief Executive Officer, Vishw Bhushan Mishra said, as per a PTI report.
Anticipating a heavy rush of devotees authorities have decided to suspend the VIP 'darshan' facility at the Kashi Vishwanath temple here from February 25 to 27. According to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, on Maha Shivratri, the 'Mangala Aarti' was performed at 2:15 am while the midday 'Bhog Aarti' will be held at 11:35 am.
The number is expected to reach 10 to 12 lakh. To manage the massive crowd, the number of queues at all four temple gates has been increased, and specific timings have been allocated for akharas and Naga sadhus, while the remaining time slots are reserved for general devotees.
The festival of Maha Shivratri marks the divine union of Lord Shiv and Goddess Parvati. Lord Shiva has played a significant role in the Samudra Manthan, which led to the emergence of the Amrit Kumbh, which is the very essence of the Kumbh Mela, held once every 12 years.
The Maha Kumbh has witnessed a record-breaking massive turnout this time and will conclude on February 26. The devotees from the festival made their way to Varanasi to visit the temple for ‘darshan’.
