Prayagraj: Maha Kumbh Sees Fire Accident For Second Consecutive Day In Sector 16

A second fire broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The fire, which occurred in a tent opposite the Kinnar Akhara, was contained by firefighters and local devotees.

A fire broke out for the second consecutive day at the Maha Kumbh Mela, with Monday’s blaze occurring in a tent opposite the Kinnar Akhara in Sector 16. The incident caused panic among those nearby, but timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading further.

According to LIVE Hindustan, Eyewitnesses said that as soon as the fire broke out, local devotees attempted to douse the flames with buckets of water, while personnel stationed at a watchtower promptly alerted the fire department. Firefighters arrived swiftly and managed to contain the fire before it could spread to other tents.

This comes just a day after a major fire erupted at the Geeta Press Gorakhpur camp on Sunday evening following a gas cylinder explosion. Several dozen cottages were gutted in the blaze. However, fire brigade personnel acted promptly and managed to contain the flames, preventing them from spreading to adjacent camps.

On Monday morning, around 9 AM, the fire at the Sector 16 tent led to a chaotic scene, with people rushing to put out the flames. Before firefighters arrived, locals had already managed to control much of the blaze using buckets of water. Firefighting teams, including those on fire bullet vehicles, reached the site quickly and ensured that the situation was brought under control.

UP Official On Fire Safety Measures At Maha Kumbh 2025

Amid concerns over fire safety at the religious gathering, Director General (DG) Fire Avinash Chandra assured that adequate measures had been taken. "In the entire Kumbh area, fire safety has been taken with great sincerity," he said, highlighting the deployment of 53 fire stations, 20 fire posts, and over 1,300 fire personnel.

Chandra also noted that more than 300 fire vehicles had been stationed across the venue. "The magnitude is so big that there are nine fire stations in the entire Prayagraj district, while the Maha Kumbh alone has 53 fire stations and over 20 fire posts," he stated, as per ANI.

Emphasising quick response times, he said, "The area of one fire station is around 800 square metres, meaning it takes less than three to four minutes for a fire vehicle to reach the spot. Our response time is around three minutes."

Reassuring visitors, Chandra urged devotees to attend without worry, stating, "We will provide them with infallible fire and police arrangements."
