Landslide Hits Army Camp In Sikkim, 3 Soldiers Dead, 6 Missing

A massive landslide hit an Army camp after heavy rainfall in Sikkim, killing three soldiers. Around nine security personnel are missing in the incident.
The landslide, which occurred at 7 pm on Sunday at Chaten in the Lachen district, was triggered by heavy rainfall in the area. Three bodies have been recovered, while six soldiers remain missing, a defence official said in a statement.
"The Indian Army promptly initiated rescue operations, displaying unparalleled commitment and resilience in the face of adversity," he said.
Four individuals have been rescued with minor injuries, while the mortal remains of three brave personnel, Havaldar Lakhwinder Singh, Lance Naik Munish Thakur and Porter Abhishek Lakhada, have been recovered.
"Rescue teams are relentlessly working around the clock under extremely challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions to locate and rescue the six personnel who remain missing," the statement added.
The Indian Army expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the brave hearts who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident. It said every effort was being made to provide necessary support to the bereaved families in this hour of grief.
"The Indian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of all its personnel, demonstrating its unyielding spirit and dedication to duty even in the face of nature's fury," it said.
Sikkim Rains
Many parts of the Northeastern states were facing a flood-like situation due to heavy rain.
Over 78,000 people have been affected in more than 15 districts in Assam due to the flood. Road transport and train and ferry services have also been hit due to the inundation caused by heavy rain across the state over the last few days, officials said.
Nine people have died in landslides triggered by torrential rain in Arunachal Pradesh in the last two days.
Nearly 1,500 tourists were stranded in various parts of north Sikkim on Saturday as the main road was blocked due to landslides triggered by incessant rains, officials said.
