Kolkata Weather: Clear Skies Expected On Bhai Phota, But Winter Chill Approaches
Kolkata will have a clear Bhai Phota with a light chill next week, while North Bengal may experience scattered showers.
Kolkata Weather Forecast: The meteorological department has forecast a mostly clear day on Bhai Phota, or Bhai Dooj, on Sunday, offering some relief to those concerned about rain disrupting the festivities. However, while the skies are expected to stay predominantly clear, a light chill may set in across the districts by the middle of next week in South Bengal.
Clear Skies On Bhai Phota In South Bengal, But Rain Forecast For North
According to the meteorological department, dry weather is likely to prevail across South Bengal through Sunday. Although November marks the beginning of cooler temperatures, the weather department indicates that this month won’t yet signal the arrival of full-fledged winter. The meteorological office has projected a dip in nighttime temperatures, with the mercury expected to fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius next week. With diminishing humidity levels, relief from the lingering discomfort of high relative humidity is also anticipated.
While Bhai Phota celebrations in South Bengal will benefit from clear skies, residents of North Bengal might need to plan accordingly as scattered showers are expected. The forecast predicts intermittent rain in districts like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, and also parts of Malda and Dinajpur districts in the northern plains between Sunday and Wednesday. The rain, accompanied by potential thunderstorms, may result in cooler temperatures and a misty ambience.
Early November Chill?
With November’s arrival, many in Bengal begin to anticipate cooler temperatures and the onset of winter, but the Met office has cautioned that winter conditions are still weeks away. The meteorological department has said the minimum temperature may remain above the seasonal norm in most parts of India, excluding a few areas in the northwest, due to the impact of northwesterly and westerly winds. However, the Alipore weather office notes that a slight dip in temperatures could bring Bengal’s readings closer to normal by the weekend.
These cooler temperatures, coupled with some residual moisture, could lead to early morning fog or haze in several regions, offering residents a hint of the winter chill that is yet to fully arrive.
