RG Kar Murder Case: A special court in Kolkata allowed the CBI to conduct a polygraph test on former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh.
Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to conduct a polygraph test on former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee at the hospital.
This comes after a special court in Kolkata on Thursday allowed the CBI to conduct a polygraph test on Ghosh and four other doctors in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee at the hospital, officials said. According to an NDTV report, the polygraph test will take place today.
The central probe agency took Ghosh and four other doctors, who were on duty on the date of the incident on August 9, to a special court for seeking its permission to conduct the lie detection test on them, news agency PTI reported, citing officials. The lie detection test can only be conducted after permission from the court and the consent of the suspect, the officials said.
The CBI application was granted by the Special Court. Besides Ghosh, the probe agency has also sought the polygraph test on the main accused, Sanjay Roy.
Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court ordered transfer of probe into 'financial irregularities' at R G Kar hospital to CBI from state-constituted SIT, as reported by PTI.
Earlier on Thursday, the CBI alleged in the Supreme Court that there was an attempt by the local police to cover up the rape and killing of the postgraduate medic as the crime scene was altered by the time the federal agency took over the probe, as reported by PTI.
A trainee doctor was raped and murdered in a seminar hall of the RG Kar College and Hospital. Following the killing of the junior doctor, widespread protests erupted across the nation, seeking justice for the victim and punishment for the accused.
The medic's body with severe injury marks was found inside the seminar hall of the hospital's chest department in the morning of August 9. A civic volunteer of the Kolkata Police was arrested the following day.
