In a significant update in the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder case, a CCTV grab of accused Sanjay Roy has surfaced from August 9, the day of the incident wherein he is seen near the seminar room. A Bluetooth is visible around the neck which had ultimately led the cops to him. Kolkata Police had detained Sanjay Roy and questioned him based on the CCTV footage and part of the Bluetooth from the hospital after which he confessed his crime.

The Kolkata Police filed an affidavit before the Calcutta High Court wherein outlined the chronological sequence of actions taken by the authorities following the discovery of the victim’s body.

According to the affidavit, the hospital administration informed the police at 10:10 AM that a woman was found unconscious in the seminar hall. The victim had already been dead for several hours by this time. Despite the severity of the incident, the police were notified approximately 40 minutes after the discovery.

Here is a detailed timeline of the events as per the police affidavit:

• 9:30 AM: Dr. Sumitra Ray, a first-year postgraduate student in the Chest Department, was on duty. She discovered the victim's body in an unconscious state in the seminar hall and immediately alerted her colleagues and senior doctors. The hospital authorities were then informed.
• 10:10 AM:  The Police Station was notified via telephone by the hospital administration. They reported an unconscious woman lying on a wooden platform in the seminar room of the chest ward on the third floor of the emergency building. The police were informed that the woman was semi-naked. This information was recorded in the police station's General Diary Entry Number 542, and police officers were dispatched to the scene.
• 10:30 AM: Police officers arrived at the scene and assessed the situation. They gathered information about the victim and informed their senior officers. Measures were taken to secure the crime scene.
• 10:52 AM: The hospital’s Assistant Superintendent contacted the victim’s family, requesting them to come to the hospital immediately.
• 11:00 AM: The officer in charge, along with a team from the Detective Department, reached the crime scene to investigate the facts and circumstances.
• 12:25 PM: The Detective Department’s scientific wing arrived for photography and videography of the scene. The first photo was taken at 12:29 PM.
• 12:44 PM: The on-duty Emergency Medical Officer declared the victim dead upon examination.
• 1:00 PM: The FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team and experts arrived at the scene and began their examination.
• 1:10 PM: The victim's family arrived and met with the hospital authorities. They were then shown the body in the seminar room.
• 1:47 PM: The Emergency Medical Officer prepared and handed over the medical and death certificate to the police.
• 3:00 PM: The victim’s family and college friends demanded that legal action and post-mortem be conducted in the presence of a judicial magistrate, and also requested video documentation of the entire process.
• 3:55 PM: The family formally requested that the post-mortem and legal procedures be carried out in the presence of a judicial magistrate.
• 4:10 PM: The judicial magistrate arrived at the scene.
• 4:20 PM - 4:40 PM: The inquest was conducted in the presence of the judicial magistrate, and the body was then transported to the mortuary for post-mortem.
• 4:45 PM - 4:56 PM: After the body was removed, photography and videography of the crime scene were completed. The FSL team revisited the scene to collect evidence.
• 5:10 PM: Protests erupted at the college, and the body was sent to the mortuary for post-mortem.
• 6:00 PM: The deceased victim’s body arrived at the mortuary.
• 6:10 PM - 7:10 PM: A board of forensic doctors conducted the post-mortem in the presence of the judicial magistrate. The autopsy surgeon collected evidence and sealed the area.
• 8:00 PM: The Dog Squad’s sniffer dogs inspected the crime scene.
• 8:37 PM - 8:52 PM: 3D mapping of the crime scene and its surroundings was conducted by the Detective Department’s scientific wing.
• 8:32 PM - 10:45 PM: About 40 samples collected from the crime scene were sealed by the FSL team in the presence of local witnesses. The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem.
• 11:45 PM: An FIR was registered following a complaint from the victim's father.

Kolkata Doctor Death: Kolkata Court Allows Polygraph Test Of Accused Sanjay Roy

A special court in Kolkata has now approved a polygraph test for Roy, the primary suspect in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

In addition to Roy, the court has also sanctioned lie-detection tests for Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college, and four doctors who were on duty on the night of August 8-9, news agency PTI reported.

Roy, aged 33, joined the Kolkata Police as a civic volunteer in 2019. Known for his background as a trained boxer and a history of multiple marriages, he had reportedly developed connections with senior police officers, which led to his assignment at the Kolkata Police Welfare Board and subsequent posting at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi will conduct the polygraph tests. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is also awaiting Roy's DNA and psychoanalysis reports to further advance its investigation. The CBI informed the Supreme Court on Thursday that there was an attempt to cover up the crime, with alterations to the crime scene before the federal agency took over the investigation.

The rape and murder of the junior doctor, discovered with severe injuries in the seminar hall of the hospital on August 9, has ignited widespread protests. Roy was arrested the day after the body was found. On August 13, the Calcutta High Court transferred the case from the Kolkata Police to the CBI, which began its investigation on August 14.
