Kerala Weather Alert: Expect Heavy Rain Over Next 5 Days, Yellow Alert Issued For 10 Districts
Kerala Weather Today: According to the latest weather report, there is a possibility of light rain in isolated places in Kottayam, Palakkad & Malappuram districts of Kerala on Monday morning.
Kerala Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in the state for the next five days. A yellow alert has been issued for 10 districts, with thunderstorms with rain, a characteristic of the northeast monsoon, expected from November 4 to 8.The yellow alert is in place for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur. The weather forecast indicates isolated heavy rain from Monday to Friday, particularly in the evenings due to the northeast monsoon.
A rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours is classified as heavy rains.
On Monday, according to the latest weather report, there is a possibility of light rain in isolated places in Kottayam, Palakkad & Malappuram districts of Kerala in the morning.
The IMD also reported a cyclonic circulation near southern Kerala over the southeastern Arabian Sea, with another expected to form in the southeastern Bay of Bengal by November 5. Light to moderate thunderstorms and rain are likely in Kerala over the next five days.
Kerala witnessed incessant heavy rains, accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning, in several parts on Saturday.
News agency PTI reported that a woman (58) died after suffering a lightning strike in coastal Alappuzha district. There were reports of rainwater entering the houses, with low-lying areas inundated in many areas, even as trees got uprooted at some places.
Safety Alert For People Living In Landslide-Prone Areas
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has urged people living in landslide and mudslide-prone areas, besides the banks of rivers and in the catchment areas of dams, to be on alert and move to safer places as per the direction issued by the authorities.
Special precautions should be taken due to heavy thunderstorms, and the KSDMA have issued general guidelines, which include:
- Stay indoors for protection from lightning strikes.
- Disconnect electrical appliances.
- Do not stand under trees or park vehicles under them during lightning.
- At the first sight of dark clouds, stop fishing or boating and return to the shore. Avoid standing on the deck of a boat during lightning, and suspend activities like fishing and casting nets.
- Do not fly kites.
