New Twist In Kalyan Assault Case As CCTV Footage Shows Receptionist Assaulting Man's Kin First
The initial video sparked outrage, portraying an unprovoked attack. Gokul Jha, the attacker, is now in police custody.

The viral incident in which a receptionist at a paediatrics hospital in Kalyan East was brutally assaulted by a man has taken a new turn with the emergence of fresh CCTV footage. The latest video reveals a key moment previously unseen, showing the receptionist slapping the man's sister-in-law moments before she was attacked.
Earlier, footage from the incident had triggered widespread outrage across Maharashtra. It showed a man, identified as Gokul Jha, kicking the receptionist, dragging her by her hair, and slamming her to the floor at Shree Bal Chikitsalaya on Monday evening.
However, the newly surfaced clip adds a layer of complexity to the case. The video captures Jha arriving at the hospital with his sister-in-law, a child, and two other companions. An argument breaks out between the receptionist and the group, during which Jha appears agitated and is restrained twice by the women accompanying him.

As tensions escalate, the receptionist is seen leaving her desk, throwing some papers on the ground, and walking directly toward the sister-in-law who had remained in the reception area. Without warning, she slaps the woman while continuing to shout and point toward Jha and the others.
What follows is the now-viral sequence: Jha re-enters the frame, launches a violent assault on the receptionist—kicking her, dragging her, and slamming her onto the floor. Onlookers quickly intervene, pulling him away, while the visibly shaken receptionist is helped into a chair by hospital staff.
The receptionist is currently receiving treatment for her injuries.
The Viral Kalyan Video
Jha, who reportedly tried to evade arrest by altering his appearance, was taken into custody on Tuesday. He was produced before the Kalyan District and Sessions Court on Wednesday and has been remanded to police custody for two days.
The incident has ignited political reactions and stirred public sentiment, particularly after it was initially portrayed as an unprovoked attack on a Marathi woman by a migrant man.
Speaking before the arrest, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Avinash Jadhav claimed, “A migrant has beaten up a Marathi woman. We urge the police to take stringent action against him and arrest him immediately.”
BJP state president Ravindra Chavan also met with Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Zende, pressing for swift and decisive action. Shiv Sena district president Dipesh Mhatre and local MNS leader Raju Patil echoed similar demands for strict punishment.
