UP Man Chooses To Leave Cheating Wife Amid Fears: 'Ending Up In Drum’

A video captured of the incident surfaced on social media showing the councillor shouting and trying to attack him after coming out of the house.

A man from Mauranipur in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district has approached to police claiming that he does not want to live with his wife anymore after he caught her with her lover together in the house. He expressed fear for his life, stating that he might be killed and his body hidden in a drum.

The woman, identified as Ritu Verma, who works as a clerk in a government girls' college, had developed an affair with Abhishek Pathak, the local councillor, her husband, Pawan, informed the police.

Ever since Pawan, who is employed at the health department in UP's Mahoba district, found out his wife of having an affair, he began living separately. Whereas his wife and a six-year-old son lived together in Mauranipur, according to a report by NDTV.

He informed to police that when he came to know of his wife's lover at their house, he informed the officials and went there to confront him. When the door was opened, the local councillor surfaced from his house and began threatening the police and residents.

"I can't live with my wife because she can kill me and my son. She can serve poisoned tea to us. It is possible our bodies would be found inside a drum," Pawan told the police.

A video captured by Pawan of the incident surfaced on social media showing the councillor shouting and trying to attack him after coming out of the house.

My Body, My Choice, I Can Do Whatever I Want: Pawan's Wife

Pawan referenced the chilling "body in a drum" murder case from Meerut, where ex-merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput was brutally killed by his wife Muskan Rastogi and her lover Sahil Shukla, as he expressed fear for his own life. The autopsy report in Rajput's case revealed he had been drugged, stabbed, and gruesomely dismembered before being stuffed in a drum filled with cement.

Drawing a parallel, Pawan shared in a video that he had confronted his wife in October 2024 after discovering she was chatting with another man.  "She said 'my body is my choice, I can do whatever I want, who are you to stop me?' After that my wife and I have been living separately. Last night I made a video call to my son... I felt that someone else was standing there... She disconnected the call," Pawan said.

"I called the police, and they reached the rented house. They tried to open the door, due to which there was a lot of noise and the neighbours woke up... After a lot of effort, the police got the gate opened... A person came out, and I saw he was Abhishek Pathak, who I caught chatting with my wife in October," Pawan added.

"The police tried to catch him while leaving. He also tried to attack the people who were making videos of the commotion... He is a councillor and tried to use his influence. I told everyone gathered there my wife can live with whoever she wants, but nothing should happen to my child," he further added.

Police have acknowledged the viral video and have launched an investigation. "A video surfaced on social media in which a young man is seen coming out of a woman's house, and information was received on 112 (police helpline), which rushed to the house and brought him to the police station," police officer Ramveer Singh told NDTV.
