Vande Bharat, 4 Other Major Trains To Stop At Additional Halts Within Delhi: Check Details
The move is aimed at decongesting the New Delhi Railway Station, allowing passengers to disembark at stations closer to their homes, thereby providing more flexibility and reduce overcrowding.

In a signficiant move following the recent stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, Indian Railways has increased the stoppages of many major trains arriving in the national capital in order to ease congestion and enhance passenger convenience.
The move is aimed at decongesting the New Delhi Railway Station, allowing passengers to disembark at stations closer to their homes, rather than everyone getting off at New Delhi. It’s expected to provide more flexibility and reduce overcrowding, especially during peak hours.
With this change, not everyone will have to get off at the New Delhi railway station as the trains will also stop at others tations within Delhi, including Hazrat Nizamuddin, Tilak Bridge, and Sabzi Mandi.
According to a statement issued by the railway, a detailed analysis revealed that the majority of train traffic during both arrivals and departures at New Delhi Station occurs between 3 PM and 9 PM. This time window sees a high influx of trains from other cities as well, significantly increasing footfall on platforms.
Thus, in order to reduce this crowd, the railways has increased the stoppages of five major trains in Delhi. However, this change currently applies only to arriving trains. Passengers boarding these trains will still need to catch them from New Delhi Railway Station.

Trains Whose Stops Have Been Increased
- The Swatantrata Senani Express (12561) will now halt at Tilak Bridge.
- The Mumbai Duronto Express (22209) will make a stop at Hazrat Nizamuddin Station.
- The Gomti Express (12419) is also being given a stoppage at Tilak Bridge.
- The Chandigarh Shatabdi Express (12046) will now stop at Sabzi Mandi Station.
- Additionally, before reaching New Delhi Railway Station, the Amb Andaura Vande Bharat Express (22448) will also halt at Sabzi Mandi.
The move will directly benefit passengers based on their location within Delhi. A traveler from South Delhi arriving by the Mumbai Duronto Express can now conveniently disembark at Hazrat Nizamuddin Station instead of going all the way to New Delhi Railway Station. Similarly, passengers residing in East Delhi can easily get off at Tilak Bridge Station, reducing travel time, and easing last-mile connectivity.
Providing further details, Northern Railway PRO Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay told ABP News that the evening hours witness heavy crowding at New Delhi Railway Station due to the arrival of several major trains. Additionally, traffic congestion on routes leading to the station adds to the chaos.
Keeping these factors into account, the stoppages of five trains have been extended to ease the situation.
He also mentioned that the Railway Board may consider adding more such stoppages in future based on operational feasibility and passenger convenience, to improve overall management.
