Hyderabad: 6-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Trapped In Elevator Shaft
According to preliminary investigations, the child entered the lift on the ground floor. Before the grill door could close, the elevator began ascending.

A six-year-old boy who was trapped between an elevator shaft and a wall in an apartment complex in Hyderabad’s Masab Tank area succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. The boy, who had been rescued after a two-hour operation on Friday was undergoing treatment at a state-run hospital but was declared dead around 12:30 PM.
The boy identified as Arav got stuck in the first floor between lift door and the wall, reported The Hindu.
The incident occurred on Friday when the boy accompanied his grandfather to visit a relative in the apartment complex. According to preliminary investigations, the child entered the lift on the ground floor. Before the grill door could close, the elevator began ascending. As the boy attempted to step out, he became trapped between the lift and the wall, as per PTI.
Personnel from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and the Fire Department rushed to the scene and worked for over two hours to rescue the child. Using gas cutters, they cut through the lift frame and floor slab to free him. The boy, who had suffered severe internal injuries and suffocation from being trapped for an extended period, was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, the child could not survive and was declared dead on Saturday. A police official stated that the exact cause of death will be determined after a postmortem examination. However, preliminary reports suggest that the boy’s injuries and prolonged suffocation were critical factors.
Health officials suspect that poor maintenance of the elevator may have contributed to the accident. It is believed that the internal door failed to close properly, creating the deadly gap that trapped the child.
A case has been registered and further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the malfunction and to hold those responsible accountable.
