Haryana Congress Worker Murder: Accused Strangled Her With Charger Cable After A Fight, Stole Valuables, Police Say

Haryana Police arrested Sachin for murdering Congress worker Himani Narwal. The accused, who met Narwal on social media, strangled her after a fight and disposed of her body in a suitcase.

Haryana Police on Monday arrested a man in connection with the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal, whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase in Rohtak on Saturday. The accused, identified as Sachin, was arrested from Delhi’s Mundka area with the help of Delhi Police, officials said.

Krishan Kumar Rao, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Rohtak Range, said that Sachin, who runs a mobile shop in Jhajjar, had met Narwal through social media and used to visit her house. “She used to stay alone in Vijay Nagar, Rohtak. On February 27, he came to her house, and they had a fight over something. He then strangled her using a mobile charger cable. After this, he took her jewellery, phone, laptop, and other valuables to his shop in Jhajjar,” Rao said.

"He left on her scooter after the murder, went to his shop, and returned the next day to dispose of the body," he added.

The police official further stated that the accused packed Narwal’s body in a suitcase and disposed of it in the bushes near the Sampla bus stand while he was pretending to be going somewhere.

On the motive behind the murder, Rao refused to speculate any angle and added, "There was also a financial transaction between them, which will be verified during the investigation. But they had a fight, and he strangled her."

The cop mentioned that Sachin was married and his family did not know about Himani Narwal, as per news agency ANI.

Rao said the police tracked the accused using electronic surveillance and nabbed him within 36 hours despite the hectic duties of state civic polls held on Sunday. A laptop, a chain, and a ring are among the items recovered from him.

Himani Narwal’s Mother Demands Capital Punishment For Daughter’s Killer

Narwal’s family has demanded capital punishment for the accused. "I want capital punishment for the killers of my daughter," her mother, Savita, told PTI Videos. She also stated that she had heard the accused’s name but did not know him personally.

Congress leaders have described Narwal as an active and dedicated party worker who had participated in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. She was also pursuing a law degree.

Previously, Savita alleged that some leaders in her party were envious of Narwal’s swift rise in the organisation. "It could be anyone in the party who was jealous of her rise, or it could be someone else," she said, adding that the family would not cremate the body until justice was served.

Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said he had spoken to Rohtak’s Superintendent of Police and urged authorities to ensure speedy justice for the victim’s family. Congress MLA from Rohtak, B B Batra, also demanded strict punishment for those responsible, calling Narwal a "very good and active worker" of the party.
