The incident was explained by the husband in the filmed video, stating that his wife had booked a Rapido bike for a short errand. When the driver arrived, he called her to inform her of his arrival. She asked him to wait for a few minutes. However, shortly after, the driver messaged her asking for her flat number and offered to come upstairs. He also sent his personal contact number and urged her to call him.
Feeling unsafe, the woman locked her door and contacted her husband, who rushed home and confronted the driver outside. The man knelt and begged for forgiveness, claiming the message was misunderstood.
He identified himself as Manjar Alam from Ghata village and admitted to using a colleague’s Rapido account despite the bike being registered in his name. This prompted the woman's husband to lodge a formal complaint with Rapido, stating he wanted the driver to face consequences for his actions.
Rapido Reaffirmed Its Strict Zero-Tolerance Policy
Police stated that no formal complaint had been filed in the case. Following the video’s circulation and widespread praise for the husband’s prompt action, Rapido released a statement condemning the driver's behaviour and confirming that he had been permanently banned from the platform.
"We barred the captain from the platform, and we spoke to the customer and offered legal assistance, and are on standby for further instructions from her," Rapido said.
Rapido reaffirmed its strict zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and said it would strengthen its driver verification procedures. The driver, identified as Manjar Alam, was reportedly using another person's identity to operate on the app.
