This Is Not Just An Operation, But A War Against Drugs: Harsh Sanghvi

In a prior operation, drugs worth Rs 5,000 crore were seized from Aavkar Drugs Limited, also in Ankleshwar. During the Police Martyrs' Remembrance Day event, Gujarat's State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi praised the police, calling the operation "This is not just an operation, but a war against drugs."

He noted the recent seizure of 2,100 grams of drugs by the Surat Police Crime Branch, which expanded the operation into the Bharuch district. Sanghvi emphasised the ongoing efforts of the state to combat drug trafficking.

In May 2024, data from the Election Commission (EC) revealed that Gujarat contributed nearly one-third of the total value of drugs seized across India.

Between March 1 and May 18, 2024, the EC reported drug seizures worth Rs 3,958.85 crore, accounting for nearly 45 per cent of the total Rs 8,889 crore in seizures during this period. Gujarat alone accounted for Rs 1,187.8 crore, or about 30 per cent, of the total drug haul.

The Election Commission attributed this increase to heightened vigilance and enforcement efforts aimed at curbing the flow of narcotics and psychotropic substances. "Continuous monitoring, precise data interpretation, and active participation of enforcement agencies have led to this significant spurt in seizures," the EC noted.
