Groom Gets Thrashed In UP For Giving Rs 5,000 During 'Joota Chupai' In Bijnor

A wedding ritual in Uttar Pradesh turned violent when the groom was harassed and beaten up by the bride's family over a dispute about the amount of money he gave for the 'joota chupai' ritual.

A wedding ritual meant to bring joy went wrong in Uttar Pradesh resulting in harassment and thrashing of the groom. The matter escalated when the groom gave Rs 5,000 instead of Rs 50,000 to the bride's family who had his shoes as part of a 'joota chupai' (hiding shoes) ritual during the wedding.

Muhammad Shabir, the groom had come from Uttarakhand's Chakrata to Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh in a wedding procession with his family on Saturday. As rituals were underway during the wedding, the bride's sister-in-law stole Shabir's shoes and demanded Rs 50,000 to get his footwear back.

However, the groom gave Rs 5,000 which irked the sister-in-law. Later, some women called out names to Shabir calling him a beggar, reported India Today.
