Delhi Weather: Cold Wave Tightens Grip On National Capital, IMD Forecasts Fog And Rain. Check All Details
Delhi is expected to experience fog and mist on Friday, with the minimum and maximum temperatures dropping to 8° Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Delhi Weather Today: Delhi woke up to a thick blanket of fog amid the cold wave on Friday morning. Delhiites were shivering due to the drop in temperature. The impact of the cold has forced people to light more bonfires and pile up thick woollens on themselves for respite. Hot beverages like tea and coffee have become the best friends of those who are having to step out early for work.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly cloudy skies to persist on Friday. The dark conditions induced by mist and fog are also likely to continue across Delhi.
Meanwhile, an induced cyclonic circulation is also likely to form over Punjab & neighbourhood on January 5, the IMD said.
IMD Forecasts Wet Start To Next Week
The weather department has issued Orange and Red alerts for fog in Delhi. The minimum temperature is expected to be 8°C and the maximum temperature is likely to drop to 16° Celsius. The cloudy and foggy conditions are likely to continue till January 5. Rain is expected in Delhi on January 6.
Delhi experienced severe cold for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, with the maximum temperature recorded at 16.2° Celsius, which was 3.1° Celsius below normal. According to the IMD, the minimum temperature in the national capital was recorded at 7.6° Celsius. "Delhi experienced severe cold conditions for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday," IMD officials said.
Delhi Weather: Visibility Drops To <50 Metres
Visibility in Delhi dropped to less than 50 metres due to the dense fog on Thursday. Visibility dropped to zero in Aya Nagar, while it was recorded at 200 metres at the city's primary weather station in Safdarjung. According to IMD officials, the Palam weather station reported very dense fog at 6 AM and visibility was zero metres. Relative humidity remained between 80 and 100% during the day.
At 5.30 AM on Friday, the temperature in Delhi was 9.6°C, while the overall AQI was 348. "Dense fog and cold day conditions likely to continue over parts of Northwest and central India during the next 24 hours," the IMD said in a bulletin.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the average air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 318, which falls in the 'very poor' category. AQI is considered 'good' between zero and 50, 'satisfactory' between 51 and 100, 'moderate' between 101 and 200, 'poor' between 201 and 300, 'very poor' between 301 and 400, and 'severe' between 401 and 500.
