Delhi CM Announces These 7 Businesses No Longer Require Police Licence To Run Operations

CM Gupta said that the licensing power will now be transferred to local bodies such as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council, or Delhi Cantonment Board.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday announced that seven types of business establishments in the national capital will no longer need police licence to run operations. The decision has been taken in line with the Centre's 'Maximum Governance-Minimum Government' and 'Ease of Doing Business' policy.

According to an official order, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has relieved Delhi Police from the responsibility for issuing licences for several businesses. These include swimming pools, restaurants (eating houses), hotel-motels, discothecs, guest houses, video game parlours, and amusement parks.

The traders will now be exempted fom having to obtain a 'no-objection' certificate from police.

CM Gupta said that the licensing power will now be transferred to local bodies such as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council, or Delhi Cantonment Board.

"It has been decided that the requirement of police license for 7 types of business establishments, including swimming pools, eating houses, hotel-motels, discothecs, guest houses, video game parlours, amusement parks, has been completely abolished... Now, only the permission of MCD, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board will be required for these," she said.

Will Make Delhi A Model Of Good Governance, Says CM Gupta

Calling it a historic order for public welfare, the Delhi CM further said that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has categorically said that police force should be relieved from non-core duties so that their energy and resources can be focused on law and order, security, and crime control.

"This will simplify the process, save time and cost, and will give a big boost to ease of doing business... Now the police will be able to focus their full attention on public safety, law and order... This will increase transparency and accountability in the entire licensing process... Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, our party is working to create a liberal environment for business in Delhi," she added.

The subject of policing in Delhi comes under the Union Home Ministry.

"We want to make Delhi not only the political capital of India but also a model of good governance. That is the mission of our double-engine government," CM Gupta said.
