High Drama, Clash At Dehradun Railway Station Over 'Missing' Girl's Inter-Faith Affair

A clash broke out at Dehradun railway station due to an interfaith couple involving a minor girl. The police intervened and dispersed the crowd after stones were thrown and vehicles damaged.

Chaos unfolded at Dehradun railway station on Thursday night as members of two communities clashed with each other resulting in the pelting of stones and vandalism of vehicles.

The violence was the fallout of an interfaith couple, said the police. The couple, involving a minor girl, were engaged in "hot talks" after which personnel of the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police at the scene got suspicious, said Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh.

The cops questioned the couple and it was revealed that the girl was a minor from Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh.

She had come to Dehradun to meet her friend, the girl told the cops. Meanwhile, the police were informed that a missing report had been filed against the girl in Badaun and a police team was reaching there based on her location, Singh said.

While the police were gathering more information from the girl at the railway office, the news was spread that the episode involved an interfaith couple after which some people gathered at the station and engaged in an argument. The local police arrived at the scene as soon as they were informed, the police said.

The confrontation soon escalated and some people from the crowd pelted stones and vandalised some two-wheelers parked there. The police promptly swung into action and dispersed the crowd.

Based on CCTV footage and information gathered by others, a case was registered at the Kotwali Nagar police station against some named and unidentified people under relevant sections.

In view of the unrest, a heavy deployment of police was made in and around the railway station. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh also arrived at the location to manage the situation.

The SSP spoke with the agitated crowd and urged them to return home, reported The Indian Express.
