Clashes Erupt In UP's Saharanpur After Cop Holds Indian Flag Upside-Down While Dispersing Crowd
The celebrations for India's Champions Trophy win turned into violent clashes after one Sub-Inspector snatched a Tricolour and held the flag upside down while trying to disperse the crowd.

A massive crowd thronged the streets in Uttar Pardesh's Saharanpur to celebrate India's triumphant Champions Trophy win against New Zealand on Sunday night. However, the celebrations soon turned into violent clashes after one Sub-Inspector snatched a Tricolour from a reveller and held the flag upside down while trying to disperse the crowd, India Today reported.
The locals in the area informed the police about the noise and heavy rush on the streets, following which police personnel arrived to disperse the people celebrating on the roads as the traffic had come to a standstill. The police personnel then arrived at the spot to disperse the crowd and ensure law and order, but the act by the Sub-inspector enraged the crowd.
The situation worsened in a few minutes, and the angry crowd started sloganeering against the Sub-Inspector as they surrounded him. He then walked off to a nearby police post to save himself from the crowd, the report said.
Soon after personnel from three police stations reached the spot and dispersed the crowd after they received information about the incident. They appealed to the people to maintain law and order.

In another incident, police had to lathi charge to disperse the cricket fans who had flooded the streets to celebrate India's victory. The crowd was growing out of control, as a result of which the Hyderabad police had to lathi charge to ensure law and order.
The incident took place in Dilsukhnagar area in Hyderabad where fans were bursting crackers, raising slogans, dancing, and cheering in support of the Indian cricket team after their win against New Zealand.
However, the celebrations caused traffic jams and massive public inconcenience, which led the police to resort to a lathi charge. Similar scenes also reportedly unfolded in Maharashtra's Nagpur, where police had to disperse cricket fans.
