Clash Erupts In Nashik Over Removal Of 'Illegal' Dargah, 31 Cops Injured In Stone Pelting

The incident took place in Nashik's Kathe Gali area when municipal corporation officials and a police team reached the Satpir Dargah around midnight to remove it.

Chaotic scenes unfolded in Maharashtra's Nashik on Tuesday night as a clash erupted after a police team and municipal corporation officials were attacked by a mob of people when they went to remove an 'illegal' dargah.

The incident took place late last night in Nashik's Kathe Gali area. The Municipal Corporation had issued a notice to remove unauthorized construction at the dargah within 15 days, but the dargah committee did not do anything about it. This prompted action by the municipal corporation officials, who reached the Satpir Dargah at around midnight to remove it.

As the officials and police personnel arrived at the site, they were attacked by a mob of people, who pelted stones at them. In response, the police fired tear gas shells. The incident left around 31 cops getting hurt, with some of them sustaining serious injuries.

The injured officials are receiving treatment at a hospital in Nashik. Police teams have started a probe and are trying to identify those involved in the clashes through the CCTV footage.

Following the clashes, police have detained 15 miscreants and motorcycles of 57 suspects have also been seized. The traffic going from Kathe Gali to Bhabha Nagar has been diverted to another route. There will be heavy security arrangements in place throughout the day to ensure law and order as the situation remains tense.

Sanjay Raut's Big Allegation Over Nashik Clash

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut suggested that the clashes in Nashik were planned, pointing out how the campaign against the dargah was carried out on the same day when the party had to stage a major rally.

"Those who are in power still fear us. Today, a campaign to remove the dargah (shrine) was carried out—coincidentally on the same day as our major rally. This was done to divert public attention away from us," he said.

He further said the action could have been taken on another day as well, but it was specifically done today as it was planned 15 days in advance.

"This action could have been taken later as well. They are cowards. You're burning with jealousy. That's why the action was taken today. They had planned this 15 days in advance. Wherever riots take place, the BJP is always waiting for such an opportunity."
