Chhattisgarh Man Gets Death Sentence For Burning 4-Year-Old Boy To Death In 2022
A man in Raipur was sentenced to death for the brutal murder of a four-year-old boy.
A man has been sentenced to death by a Raipur court for the brutal murder of a four-year-old boy, Harsh Chetan, described as "rarest of the rare" case. The convict, Panchram Gendre, committed the crime to take revenge on the child's mother who had rejected his advances.
The court noted that showing leniency would embolden criminals and undermine the role of the judiciary in upholding justice, reported the Times of India. The court ordered that the convict be hanged until death, considering his lack of remorse and the heinous nature of the crime.
On April 5, 2022, Raipur resident Pushpa Chetan (29) reported to the police that her two kids, Divyansh (5) and Harsh (4), were taken by her neighbour Panchram for a motorcycle ride around 9:30 am.
While Divyansh returned, Harsh insisted on another round and it was then that the convict executed his plan to take revenge. He purchased petrol and set the child on fire in an isolated area between Nevnara and Akolikhar villages.
Revealing his motive during interrogation, Panchram said Pushpa ignored him whenever he tried to talk to her which infuriated him. "I decided to teach her a lesson by killing her children," he said.
Panchram bought petrol in a two-litre can and took the children for a ride. While he brought Divyansh back home, he took Harsh to a secluded spot where he wrapped him in a towel, doused him with petrol and set fire.
Following the incident, the accused fled to Nagpur where he was arrested two days later as police traced him using his mother's mobile phone. He sold his motorcycle for Rs 25,000 and collected an advance of Rs 15,000 in Durg before fleeing to Nagpur.
The accused lived in the same building and pretended like an uncle to the children, often giving them sweets, recounted Jayendra Chetan, the father of the victim. "I never suspected his intentions," he added.
