Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has announced a scheduled power cut in several neighbourhoods of Chennai on Saturday, June 14, 2025, due to routine maintenance work. Power supply will be suspended from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the following areas:

Chennai Power Cut: Affected Areas

Chennai Weather Update

In a welcome development, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a change in weather for Chennai and nearby areas. "Thunderstorm & lightning with Light /Moderate rain is likely to occur in some areas," IMD said, offering a potential respite from the ongoing heat.

Chennai’s weather on Saturday is expected to experience maximum temperatures reaching 36–37°C and minimum temperatures ranging between 26–27°C. However, a slight rise in maximum temperatures by 1–2°C is anticipated in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. No significant change in temperatures was recorded over the rest of Tamil Nadu during the past 24 hours.

Chennai Power Shutdown Precaution

Meanwhile, it is routine for TANGEDCO to carry out power cuts for maintenance to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply on other days.

During the power cut, health and safety officials recommend wearing light, breathable clothing, staying indoors during extreme heat or rainfall, and using battery-operated fans to stay cool. People are urged to stay hydrated and keep essential devices like mobile phones and power banks fully charged in advance.

With the possibility of power interruptions, mobile users are advised to conserve battery by lowering screen brightness and disabling background data. Residents are also encouraged to stay updated through SMS alerts from the electricity board or by using battery-powered radios for news updates.
