Chaos At Chennai Airport As Passengers Stranded After Air India Flights Cancelled

Air India cancelled two major domestic routes, while an international service to Singapore was hit by a lengthy delay, throwing travel plans into disarray.

Travellers at Chennai International Airport faced an skeptical day as multiple flight cancellations and significant delays left hundreds stranded. Air India cancelled two major domestic routes, while an international service to Singapore was hit by a lengthy delay, throwing travel plans into disarray.

Air India Flights Cancelled At Chennai Airport

The cancelled Air India flights are:

  • Delhi to Chennai: Scheduled to depart at 4:15 PM and arrive at 7:10 PM
  • Chennai to Delhi: Scheduled departure at 8:40 PM, with an expected arrival at 11:25 PM

In addition to the cancellations, Chennai to Singapore flight operated by Air India Express, which was originally slated to take off at 5:00 AM, was delayed by six hours. The aircraft eventually departed at 11:00 AM, as per a report on DT Next.

The delay stemmed from the late arrival of the inbound flight from Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

Passengers voiced their frustration over inadequate communication and the lack of timely updates or alternate arrangements. Several travellers voiced out long waits and confusion, with many unaware of the changes until shortly before scheduled departures.

Airport authorities and airline representatives have yet to issue a formal statement on the disruptions, but it is said that aircraft rotation issues and operational delays may have contributed to the cancellations and holdups. Travellers are advised to check with airlines for real-time updates before heading to the airport.

Meanwhile, Air India’s operations continued to face turbulence on Tuesday as at least 13 Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights were grounded due to ongoing technical and operational issues. Among the affected routes was Ahmedabad–London service, which had only recently resumed following the fatal crash on June 12, as per a report on The Hindustan Times. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that since the crash, the airline has cancelled 66 Dreamliner flights, part of a broader total of 83 cancellations involving its widebody fleet.
