BJP MLA T Raja Singh Resigns Over Reports Of Party’s New Telangana Chief Pick: 'Central Leadership Misled'

T. Raja Singh resigned from the Telangana BJP over the reports of N. Ramchander Rao being slated for state president role. He cited widespread disillusionment among party workers, alleging central leadership was misled.

Amid intense speculation regarding the appointment of former MLC N. Ramchander Rao as the next Telangana BJP president, senior party MLA T. Raja Singh has tendered his resignation from the party’s primary membership. Citing widespread disillusionment, Singh said the move “reflects the pain of lakhs of karyakartas.”

In a letter addressed to BJP Telangana President G. Kishan Reddy, Singh expressed anguish over reports of Rao’s likely appointment, stating, “This decision has come as a shock and disappointment, not just to me, but to lakhs of karyakartas, leaders, and voters who have stood by the party through every high and low.”

Singh, who has been elected three consecutive times as an MLA, warned that misguided choices could squander the BJP’s chance of forming its first government in the state.

Highlighting concerns of internal sabotage, Singh alleged that “some individuals, driven by personal interests, have misled the central leadership and taken decisions by running the show from behind the curtain.” He insisted that numerous capable senior leaders, MLAs, and MPs in Telangana deserved consideration for the post instead.

He further wrote, “Unfortunately, it appears that some individuals… have misled the central leadership… This not only undermines the sacrifices of grassroots workers but risks pushing the party into avoidable setbacks.”

T Raja Singh Calls on Top BJP Leaders to Reconsider Telangana Chief Pick

In a direct appeal, Singh urged senior national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santhosh, to rethink the party’s leadership choices in Telangana.

Singh’s resignation letter added, “The silence of many should not be mistaken for agreement. I speak not just for myself, but for countless karyakartas and voters who stood with us with faith, and who today feel let down.”

Despite leaving the BJP, Singh affirmed his dedication to Hindutva and serving the people of his constituency, Goshamahal, saying, “While I may be stepping away from the party, I remain fully committed to the ideology of Hindutva and the service of our Dharma and the people of Goshamahal.”

Telangana BJP President Election

On Sunday, the BJP issued an official notification detailing the election process for the Telangana state president, bringing an end to weeks of speculation. According to BJP state election officer and former MLA Endala Lakshminarayana, nominations would be accepted from 2 PM to 4 PM on 30 June, with withdrawals allowed between 4 PM and 5 PM.

Union Minister of State for MSME Shobha Karandlaje will oversee the process as the Central Returning Officer, with the elections taking place at the party’s state headquarters in Hyderabad, reported PTI.

According to PTI, sources within the party indicated that while several names — including Rajya Sabha MP K. Laxman, Lok Sabha MPs Eatala Rajender and D. Arvind, and Ramchander Rao — are in contention, the final decision will rest with the BJP’s central leadership. Party insiders noted that the BJP may opt for a backward-class leader as a counter to the ruling Congress’ social justice plank and its recent caste survey in the state.
