In response, district authorities promptly initiated an inspection of the reservoir on Friday morning and launched an inquiry into the matter. A Nalgonda district official stated that preliminary assessments suggest a low probability of the chickens being infected, reported The Times of India. However, it is suspected that they were dumped in the water due to fear or other motives.
The police have registered a case and commenced an investigation. Meanwhile, the Revenue and Irrigation Departments are also conducting inquiries. Officials confirmed that the carcasses were retrieved from the water and sent for analysis to determine the cause of death.
Hyderabad Zoo Stops Feeding Chickens To Animals
Hyderabad’s Nehru Zoological Park has temporarily stopped feeding chicken and eggs to carnivorous animals as a precautionary measure. The move came following reports of poultry deaths in neighbouring states due to suspected avian influenza. Previously, the zoo provided approximately 35 kg of chicken and 140 eggs daily to carnivores, including tigers, lions, panthers, and jaguars. However, officials have confirmed that these animals are now being fed mutton, beef, and pork instead, according to Telangana Today.
Amid concerns over rising poultry deaths in nearby states, Telangana has stepped up surveillance at interstate border check posts to prevent the entry of sick birds. Authorities have also reinforced biosecurity measures to mitigate potential risks, according to a senior official from the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department.
Recent reports suggest that large-scale culling of chickens has been carried out in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra due to suspected outbreaks of bird flu.
