7 Dead In Bihar's West Champaran After Consuming Spurious Liquor, Probe Ordered

Police stated that deaths came to light on Sunday, although the first took place four days earlier, and all seven victims had already been cremated.

Seven people allegedly lost their lives after consuming spurious liquor in the West Champaran district of Bihar, leading the administration to initiate an inquiry, a police officer stated on Sunday.

The deaths came to light on Sunday, although the first took place four days earlier, and all seven victims had already been cremated, the official added. Shaurya Suman, Superintendent of Police for the district, confirmed that the deaths were reported from the Lauriya police station area.

While locals attributed the deaths to the consumption of illicit liquor, the SP clarified that at least two of the fatalities were unrelated to hooch. One individual was injured by a tractor, and another died after a paralytic attack, Suman stated.

Police Found Difficult To Find Reason For Deaths

"The first death took place on January 15 though we came to know about the episode only today. The cause of the remaining five deaths was unclear as all seven bodies were cremated before the police were informed. We have set up an investigation team to find out the cause of the deaths," Suman told news agency PTI.

The Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) of West Champaran, Sumit Kumar stated that it is hard to find out the cause of the deaths as all the bodies were cremated. "The investigation team was directed to submit its report within 24 hours," Kumar said adding that the team will also find out the identity of those who lost their lives in the last three or four days in Lauriya.

A relative of one of the deceased stated, "My brother Pradeep drank liquor with his friend Manish, and both passed away." The Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar had imposed a ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol in April 2016.
