Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium Faces Power Cut Over Fire Safety Violations
M Chinnaswamy Stadium regularly draws thousands for cricket matches and public events. BESCOM flagged that the stadium had failed to secure the mandatory fire safety clearance.

Bengaluru's famed M Chinnaswamy Stadium has had its electricity supply cut off by BESCOM over serious fire safety compliance lapses.
The drastic action follows a recommendation from the Director General of Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services, who flagged that the stadium, which regularly draws thousands for cricket matches and public events, had failed to secure the mandatory fire safety clearance.
Despite repeated warnings, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) did not obtain the necessary approvals, prompting officials to escalate the matter. Acting on the directive, a formal letter was sent to the Managing Director of BESCOM, which led to the immediate disconnection of power to the stadium.
Power To Remain Cut In Chinnaswamy
Officials have confirmed that the power supply will not be restored until the KSCA complies fully with fire safety norms and obtains the required certifications. The decision is being seen as a warning to other venues hosting large public gatherings without proper safety clearances.
The stadium is one of India's most prominent cricketing venues and home to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League. The incident has raised concerns about event safety standards in high-capacity venues.
BESCOM and fire department authorities have reiterated that public safety is non-negotiable, and violations will be dealt with sternly.
This development could potentially affect upcoming events and fixtures scheduled at the stadium, unless compliance is swiftly achieved.
