Bengaluru: Bus Passenger Stabs Conductor After Dispute Over Standing Near Door -- 'Was Fired Recently'

The accused Harish reportedly said that his actions to stab BMTC conductor were driven by a desire to go to jail, as he had been struggling to find work and get food.

Bengaluru news: A passenger stabbed a BMTC Volvo bus conductor over advise to not stand near the door near Whitefield, Bengaluru. The altercation occurred at Vaidehi Circle, close to the Whitefield police station, around 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Harish Sinha, a young man from Haryana, reportedly attacked the conductor, Yogesh, after being asked to move further inside the bus for safety reasons. Harish, who had been standing near the door since boarding, responded violently by pulling out a knife and stabbing Yogesh multiple times.

Panic ensued as passengers fled the bus with some attempting to restrain Harish. However, the accused attacked those trying to intervene. Following this, the bus driver closed the doors, trapping Harish inside and immediately alerted the police.

Despite Harish’s attempts to break the bus windows and escape, he was unable to flee. Police soon arrived at the scene and apprehended Harish. They then sent the injured conductor, Yogesh, to a nearby hospital. Yogesh is currently admitted to the ICU of a hospital and is suggested to undergo a surgery.

During initial questioning, Harish revealed that he had worked at a BPO company, Teleperformance, in Bengaluru but had been dismissed from his job the previous month. He said that his actions were driven by a desire to go to jail, as he had been struggling to find work and secure food. Authorities are now investigating whether Harish suffers from mental health issues or if there was a personal motive behind the attack.

Amid increasing road rage incidents in Bengaluru, this incident has shocked local commuters, and the police continue to investigate the circumstances leading to this tragic event. Earlier, a school bus coming from Treamis School in Electronic City was attacked on Route 35.
