Bengal 'Rape' Case: BJP Stages Protest Demanding Justice For Minor, Locals Torch Police Post Over Inaction

West Bengal is witnessing unrest once again after the body of a 10-year-old girl was found in a marshy land in West Bengal's South 24 Paraganas. It is being alleged that the minor was raped and murdered after being kidnapped on Friday while she was returning home from tuition. As the incident was unearthed, BJP leaders including Agnimitra Paul long with agitated locals, held a protest in Kultali, demanding justice for the girl. 

Members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM)- North Kolkata District also staged a protest after the girl's body was discovered on Saturday, a day after she went missing. 

Locals Pelt Stones At Police, Torch Outpost Over Inaction

The harrowing incident triggered arson by locals at the Mahismari police outpost in the area as villagers alleged that the police did not act promptly when they complained.

A mob torched the Mahismari police outpost and pelted stones at the policemen. They also vandalised several vehicles outside the outpost, forcing the policemen to leave the premises, a senior officer told news agency PTI.

Thereafter, a huge police force was deployed and tear gas shells had to be fired at the mob to quell them. The agitated locals were trying to confine the SDPO and other senior personnel at the police outspot. The parents of the girl have lodged an FIR at the Mahismari outpost in the area.

However, the police, said that action was taken immediately after the complaint was received. An accused was arrested this morning in connection with the alleged rape and murder of the minor girl.

"Investigation is on and we are with the family of the deceased.Those involved in arson at the police outpost and destroying of all important documents will be identified and action will be taken against them," the official added.

BJP also held a demonstration in Salt Lake area against the incident, raising a slogan ‘Dhikkar Dhikkar’ (we condemn) against police personnel.

TMC MLA Ganesh Mondal was chased away by the villagers when he tried to pacify the locals at the spot. He was accused of trying to support the police inaction.
