Showers Keep Heat At Bay In Bengal, Heavy Rain & Storms Likely To Continue Today

Kolkata is experiencing a pleasant summer with mild temperatures and rain. The India Meteorological Department has forecast more thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in the state.

Bengal is experiencing an unusually pleasant summer this year. The scorching heat typical of April is missing and has been replaced by a mild, cloudy sky and cool breezes. Over the past few days, temperatures have dropped by more than 4°C, offering much-needed respite to residents.

Issuing a warning, a bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) read: "Thunderstorm with gusty wind (speed: 40-50 kmph), lightning and heavy rainfall (07-11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Coochbehar districts." Moderate rainfall is likely in other North Bengal districts.

In South Bengal, "thunderstorm with gusty wind (speed: 30-40 kmph), lightning and light to moderate rainfall are very likely to
occur at one or two places over Nadia, North and South 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, East and West Midnapore
districts".

This spell of thunderstorms and rain is likely to continue until Monday. After that, temperatures may rise by 2-4°C.
