Rains Trigger Waterlogging In Assam’s Guwahati, IMD Warns Of Flood, Landslide Risk In Sikkim
The overnight rain also led to waterlogging in GS Road Jorabat, Tarun Nagar, Jatia, Jyotikuchi, Ghoramara, VIP Road, Rukmini Gaon, Survey, and Chatribari, among others.

A heavy rain inundated several residential areas and roads in Guwahati, the capital city of Assam, disrupting commuters and other vehicle activities, which caused inconvenience to residents of the city on Tuesday.
Visuals from the Guwahati show people wading with their vehicles through deep waters on the road. As per the report, inundation was reported from Nabin Nagar, Zoo Road, Ganeshguri, Hatigaon, Gita Nagar, Maligaon, Hedayetpur, Guwahati Club, Ulubari, Lachit Nagar, Panjabari, and Chandmari.
According to a report by PTI, the overnight rain also led to waterlogging in GS Road Jorabat, Tarun Nagar, Jatia, Jyotikuchi, Ghoramara, VIP Road, Rukmini Gaon, Survey, and Chatribari, among others.
Due to a "flooded" campus and waterlogging on roads prompted several schools announced the closure as school bus services had to be stopped. In addition, ambulances with patients on board also became immobile after several vehicles were stuck on the waterlogged roads.
Unsettled Weather Conditions In Assam
This has also led to traffic jams in almost all localities in the city as vehicles were stranded due to waterlogging on roads. The ‘smart’ city also reported power cuts in several areas after the accumulation of rainwater in hundreds of houses.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast unsettled weather conditions in Assam over the next 2–3 days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in several regions of the state.
"As per rainfall data recorded on May 20, 2025, several locations in and around Guwahati have already received substantial precipitation, including 112.5 mm at the Guwahati AWS station," as per the official release.
Forecasts indicate that the western and southern districts may experience particularly intense downpours, with isolated areas potentially receiving up to 200 mm of rain. "In Guwahati city, continued downpours could aggravate water logging, slow vehicular movement, and increase the risk of tree falls and localised landslides in vulnerable pockets," it added.
Residents living in low-lying and hilly areas have been advised to remain vigilant for possible flooding or soil erosion. "The public is also urged to stay tuned to official weather updates and follow advisories issued by local authorities to ensure safety during this prolonged spell of rain," it further added.
