Heavy Overnight Rain Floods Bengaluru, CM Siddaramaiah To Visit Affected Areas: Top Updates

The IMD has extended its yellow alert for Bengaluru and several districts in Karnataka until Tuesday, warning of thundershowers, lightning, and gusty winds with speed up to 60 km/h.

Bengaluru woke up to severely water-logged roads, inundated residential areas, and traffic snarls after a heavy spell of overnight rain lashed several parts of the city. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, along with officials, will visit the rain-affected areas at around 4:00 PM and listen to the grievances of the people living in areas affected by rain. A statement by the CMO stated that he will try to resolve the problems while conducting an inspection across the city.

According to an IMD bulletin, Bengaluru received 103 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. "Due to the heavy rain that poured last night, several roads in various areas of Bengaluru city have been flooded, and water has entered houses," the CMO said.

Social media platforms were flooded with videos from across Bengaluru, capturing scenes of submerged roads and stalled traffic, exposing the city’s infrastructural issues after heavy rainfall. Click here to watch.

  • According to Home Minister G Parameshwara, Bengaluru has witnessed heavy rains for the last three days. He said that Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been clearing waterlogging and uprooted trees and branches from roads, stressing that it should take measures to correct the situation by taking necessary action.

"There is a flood. That is why the opposition is criticising. BBMP should take all measures to correct the situation here and it is being done... I have been observing it for the last two or three days, leaves and papers are lying on the road. It all gets deposited in one place, BBMP is taking action," he said.

  • As per local weather watchers, the city has been consistently clocking 15–20 cm of rain over the past few days. Residents have been urged to opt for work-from-home arrangements, citing treacherous commute conditions and flooded underpasses, PTI reported.

  • Among the worst-hit areas is Sai Layout in Horamavu, where floodwaters rose up to 4–5 feet, swamping homes and roads. In NC Colony on Tannery Road, water seeped into houses, adding to the residents’ woes.

  • Although there were no reports of injuries, property damage was reported in Jayanagar, where a tree fell onto parked vehicles. Another major road—East End Road near Mount Carmel School—was briefly closed after a tree collapsed there as well.

  • Knee-deep water was seen in Panathur S Cross, Domlur flyover, and Koramangala. Traffic crawled at a snail’s pace near Manyata Tech Park despite frequent advisories from traffic police.

  • The IMD has extended its yellow alert for Bengaluru and several districts in Karnataka until Tuesday. "As per the current pattern of the cyclonic circulation, Karnataka, especially the coastal parts, will get heavy rainfall. Bengaluru is also expected to receive heavy rainfall for the next two days," said N Puviarasu, Director of IMD Bengaluru, in a statement to PTI.

  • The alert has warned of thundershowers, lightning, and wind speeds up to 60 km/h, which could lead to power outages, uprooted trees, and minor traffic disruptions.

  • According to the IMD, the alert covers 23 districts, including Mysuru, Mandya, Tumakuru, Kolar, Hassan, Davanagere, and Belagavi, all of which are expected to face moderate to heavy rainfall this week.
