Actor Vijay's Party Passes Resolution Against 'One Nation, One Election', NEET
Vijay's party said that 'One Nation, One Election' undermines the principles of democracy and federalism and termed the Waqf Amendment Bill an attack against federalism and wanted it to be withdrawn.
Actor-politician Vijay's party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Sunday passed a resolution during its council meeting opposing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal, and the Waqf Amendment Bill.
The TVK also condemned the DMK government for not conducting a caste survey in Tamil Nadu and blamed the Centre for it.
The party said that 'One Nation, One Election' undermines the principles of democracy and federalism. The party termed the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, which is under the review of a Joint Parliamentary Committee, an attack against federalism and wanted it to be withdrawn.
Vijay chaired TVK's meeting of district office bearers and the executive committee in Chennai and the party deliberated 'strengthening' its organisational structure, discussed reaching out to the people and passed as many as 26 resolutions, which reflected its stand on various issues.
The Tamil Nadu actor also attacked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin-led DMK by saying that its poll promise "was filled with lies to come to power".
Vijay's party also condemned the DMK government, alleging that the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu has deteriorated under its leadership. It flayed the DMK regime for increase in milk prices, property tax and hike in electricity tariff. The TVK demanded introduction of monthly power billing.
The party also called for including education solely in the State List, rather than remaining in the Concurrent List.
"According to our demand for State Autonomy policy, Education belongs to the State List. If the Union Government moves education to the State List, the state government can revoke NEET on its own. This executive committee opposes the Union Government's obstacle to this and also opposes the State DMK government for cheating Tamil Nadu people with fake promises," the resolution of Vijay's party stated regarding the NEET.
The fledgling party, that held its first mega public meeting on October 27, nudged the state government to hold caste survey and declared that its ideology is based on secularism and social justice.
