Rai won against BJP candidate Anil Kumar Vashisht by a margin of 18994 votes in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025. He was also the minister for environment, forest and wildlife, development, and general administration in the Delhi government and a member of the political affairs committee of the AAP.
Gopal Rai's Journey Into Politics
Gopal Rai began his political journey in 1992 as a student activist at Lucknow University, affiliated with the All India Students Association. He actively led campaigns against corruption and crime on college campuses. During a protest, he was shot, which resulted in partial paralysis, according to the Delhi government's website.
His activism eventually led him into mainstream politics, and in 2013, he contested the Delhi Assembly election from Babarpur but was unsuccessful. His breakthrough came in 2015 when he won the Babarpur seat and was appointed as the Minister of Transport and Labour. Over the years, he has played a crucial role in strengthening the party’s presence in Delhi.
Voting for all 70 assembly seats in Delhi took place on February 5, and results were announced on Saturday, February 8 in which BJP made a decisive victory against AAP securing 48 seats.
