Walmart To Cut Jobs And Relocate Employees, Check Which US Office Will Be Impacted

Sharing the restructuring via an internal memo, the American retail giant said that this decision is a part of its move to relocate employees to its main hubs based in California and Arkansas.

Walmart Inc announced that it will eliminate some jobs and shut down its office in North Carolina. Sharing the restructuring via an internal memo, the American retail giant said that this decision is a part of its move to relocate employees to its main hubs based in California and Arkansas.

Citing the memo, Reuters reported that the firm is also asking its office-based employees in Hoboken, New Jersey and some of the smaller offices to shift to the newly opened headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas and its office in Sunnyvale, California.

The decision about the relocation was shared by Donna Morris, the chief people office in the company via a memo to its US office-based employees earlier this week on Tuesday.

Notably, the restructuring is part of the company’s broader relocation strategy that started last year. Meanwhile, many other US corporates are also making it mandatory for employees to return to office three to five days a week.

Earlier in May 2024, the company decided to relocate the majority of its workforce in Dallas, Atlanta and in the Toronto Global Tech office to Bentonville, Arkansas, San Francisco, and Hoboken. This decision followed the company shutting down its three tech offices and asking some employees to relocate to central corporate hubs.

Quoting Morris in the memo, the report said, “We are making these changes to put key capabilities together, encouraging speed and shared understanding. Through this review process, we have eliminated some roles as we streamline how we work and will also be exiting our office in Charlotte, North Carolina.”

However, the company didn’t disclose how many employees will exactly be affected by the decision. Notably, Walmart is also planning to open new office spaces later in the year in Sunnyvale, California and Bellevue, Washington. The memo revealed that it will also expand and upgrade its office in Hoboken and its Fashion office in New York City later in the year.
