Start-Up CEO Calls Indian Engineers A 'Different Breed'—Here’s The Inside Story

The post quickly went viral, getting over 4 million views. It elicited a broad spectrum of user reactions, revealing both admiration and concern about the prevailing work culture in the tech industry

In a recent social media post, Roshan Patel, founder and CEO of Arrow, highlighted the exceptional work ethic often seen among Indian engineers. Patel shared a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, "Indian engineers are a different breed," showcasing how the drive to meet professional demands can sometimes come at the expense of personal well-being.

In the post, he shared a screenshot of a conversation in which Patel reached out to an employee, suggesting they take some time off. "Hey noticed you haven't taken any time off in a while. Just checking in and definitely encourage you to take a break if needed!" Patel wrote. The engineer's response was striking: "I don't need a break, sir. My body is a vessel for the company to find product market fit."

The post quickly went viral, racking up over four million views. It elicited a broad spectrum of user reactions, revealing both admiration and concern about the prevailing work culture in the tech industry.

“He almost had the perfect reply, he should have also included something about improving KPIs, and increasing shareholder value. He will never make it up the ladder now,” wrote one of the internet users.

Another user added, “Hypothesis: When the Indian engineer falls ill in early 30s due to gut health issues or back issues. He will not realise that the encouragement he received for this cortisol driven development was the key reason which set him on this path for lack of balance + self-sabotage.”

“They really are though. Once worked at a consultancy where majority of my team was Indian. They grind like no other. Potluck days were on another level, too,” added another user.

I seriously don't understand! Some guys brags that their PTOs are getting lapsed every year that's not something you should be proud of," wrote another X user.
