Stock Market Ends Flat Amid Volatility, Sensex Up 65 Points, Nifty Holds 17,600 Mark— Divis Labs Drops 4%

Stock Market Update: On the 30-share Sensex platform, HUL, Sun Pharma, Infosys, UltraTech Cement were among the major losers. On the other hand, Tata Motors, NTPC were among the major gainers. 

The equity markets on Thursday closed with marginal gains after a volatile session.  At closing bell, the Sensex was up 65 points or 0.11 per cent at 59,632, and the Nifty was up 6 points or 0.03 per cent at 17,624. 

On the 30-share Sensex platform, HUL, Sun Pharma, Infosys, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finance, and Nestle India were among the major losers. On the other hand, Tata Motors, NTPC, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, SBI, and Tech Mahindra were among the major gainers. 

Among specific stocks on Nifty, NTPC, Adani Ports, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, and Asian Paints were among the top gainers, while losers were Divis Labs (4 per cent), Eicher Motors, HUL, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, and JSW Steel.

In the broader markets, the BSE midcap and smallcap indices ended on a flat note.

Among sectors, the pharma index declined 1 per cent and the realty index fell 0.5 per cent, while consumer durables, footwear, and hotel stocks logged gains in today's trade.

In the previous session on Wednesday, the market closed with the S&P BSE Sensex down 159 points or 0.27 per cent at 59,568, and the Nifty down 41 points or 0.23 per cent at 17,619. 

Global markets declined on Thursday as investors awaited more economic data from the eurozone and corporate results. Investors also remained anxious over a possible interest rate hike by the US Federal Reserve. On Wall Street, Dow Jones futures were down 0.48 per cent, the S&P 500 declined 0.73 per cent and Nasdaq 100 dipped 1.08 per cent. In European, Euro Stoxx 50 declined 0.37 per cent and FTSE MIB declined 0.74 per cent. Britain's FTSE 100 slipped 0.14 per cent.

Elsewhere in Asia, Tokyo's key Nikkei index closed higher on Thursday. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index was up 0.18 per cent, while the broader Topix index edged down 0.03 per cent.

The Rupee closed 8 paise higher at 82.15 per dollar against the previous close of 82.23.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 82.21 against the US currency and finally closed at 82.14 (provisional) against the greenback, registering a gain of 11 paise over its previous close.

Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 1.89 per cent to $81.55 per barrel.

Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 13.17 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data.
