State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest bank, has announced its collaboration with former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as its official brand ambassador. The bank in a statement said that Dhoni, as the brand ambassador of SBI, will play a pivotal role in various marketing and promotional campaigns.
The statement added Dhoni's remarkable capacity to maintain composure in stressful situations and his renowned ability for clear thinking and rapid decision-making under duress makes him the ideal choice that resonates with SBI to connect with its customers and stakeholders across the country.
Dinesh Khara, chairman of SBI, said, "Dhoni's association with SBI as a satisfied customer makes him a perfect embodiment of our brand's ethos. With this partnership, we aim to reinforce our commitment to serving the nation and our customers with trust, integrity, and unwavering dedication."
The bank said the association with SBI and Dhoni symbolises the lender's commitment to forging deeper connections with its customers, reflecting the values of reliability and leadership.
On the other hand, the government has granted a tenure extension to the chairman of SBI Dinesh Khara until August 2024, reported Reuters citing two government sources. Khara assumed the role of SBI's chairman on October 7, 2020, with an initial term of three years in accordance with the norms that the SBI Chairman can serve until reaching the age of 63.
The government is likely to issue an order to this effect shortly, the sources told the news agency. Dinesh Khara's present tenure as the Chairman of SBI is set to conclude on October 6, as per a separate report by Businessline. If his term is extended by an additional 10 months, he will continue to hold the position until August 2024, at which point he will reach the mandatory retirement age of 63, in accordance with SBI's norm.
