Led by the Union Cabinet under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this step aims to modernize taxpayer identification while enhancing security and efficiency. Announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, PAN 2.0 introduces QR codes for better functionality and authentication.

Who Can Avail PAN 2.0? 

All existing PAN cardholders are eligible for the PAN 2.0 upgrade without reapplying. They can simply request the QR-enabled version. New applicants must meet standard eligibility criteria and provide valid identity and address proofs. The upgrade is free for all taxpayers.

How To Apply For PAN 2.0 Online: A Step-By-Step Guide

  1. Visit the Unified Portal: Access the platform once it’s live.
  2. Enter Personal Information: Provide the required details.
  3. Upload Supporting Documents: Submit scanned copies of identity, address, and date-of-birth proofs.
  4. Review and Submit: Verify the entered information before submitting.

Documents Required For PAN 2.0 Application

  • Proof of Identity: Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, or Driving License.
  • Proof of Address: Bank statements, utility bills, or rental agreements.
  • Proof of Date of Birth: Birth certificate, school leaving certificate, or passport.
