Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Mohandas Pai Back Bengaluru Road Protests; Calls For Urgent Action

In October last year, Pai criticised the Karnataka government for the poor state of roads, drainage, and traffic on Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road, which he said was causing frustration

Biocon chairperson, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai have expressed their support for a protest in Bengaluru over the city's poor-quality roads. Known for its pothole-ridden streets and traffic jams, the IT capital of India has prompted both business leaders to urge authorities to take action and improve the roads.

On Wednesday, Pai shared a video on the social media platform, X (formerly Twitter) showing citizens holding placards and protesting on a pothole-filled road as motorists struggled to navigate through. "People protesting about bad condition of road, unfinished works," he wrote, tagging Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar.

Biocom chairperson retweeted the video and wrote, "A very valid and legitimate demand by Bengaluru residents."

This isn't the first time the Bengaluru-based business leaders have raised concerns about the city's poor infrastructure. Both Mazumdar-Shaw and Pai frequently use social media to spotlight such issues.

Frustration Among Multinational Companies

In October last year, Mohandas Pai criticised the Karnataka government for the poor state of roads, drainage, and traffic on Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road (ORR), which he said was causing frustration among the multinational companies with offices in the area. He warned that if the government failed to address these problems on time, these companies might consider relocating to other cities outside the state.

His comments followed widespread flooding in several parts of the city after heavy rainfall. A similar situation occurred the previous week, when rains led to waterlogged streets and severe traffic congestion that lasted for hours, bringing the city to a standstill.
