IndiGo Extends Waiver On Change, Cancellation Fees For Srinagar Flights

IndiGo Airlines on Thursday announced an extension of its waiver on change and cancellation charges for flights to and from Srinagar, offering relief to passengers amid ongoing airspace disruptions. The extended waiver will now apply to travel until May 22, 2025, for tickets booked on or before April 22, 2025.

In an official statement shared on platform X (formerly Twitter), the airline stated, “Continuing our efforts to provide support to our customers and accommodate their travel plan changes, we are extending full waiver of change and cancellation fees for travel to/from Srinagar until 22nd May 2025, for bookings made on or before 22nd April 2025.”

The announcement comes as flight operations across several regions of India remain impacted following military action under Operation Sindoor, in which India reportedly conducted missile strikes in Pakistan. As a result, numerous airports in northern, western, and central India have suspended commercial services. According to a report by The Times of India, 27 airports across these regions will remain shut for civilian flights until 5:29 a.m. on Saturday, May 10.

Disruption In Aviation Schedules

The airspace restrictions have significantly disrupted aviation schedules in both India and Pakistan. Indian airlines cancelled approximately 430 flights on Thursday, roughly 3 per cent of the country's daily scheduled services. The impact has been more pronounced in Pakistan, with over 147 flight cancellations constituting nearly 17 per cent of its total daily operations.

Flight tracking platform Flightradar24 highlighted the extent of the disruption, noting that civilian aircraft were largely absent from the skies over Pakistan and India’s western corridor, from Kashmir down to Gujarat. “Airspace over Pakistan and the western shoulder of India between Kashmir and Gujarat was free of civilian air traffic as airlines shunned the sensitive zone,” the platform reported, citing real-time data and cancellation statistics.
