Go First Airline Extends Flight Cancellations Till August 31, Cites Operational Reasons

The airline which has been grounded since May announced an extension of it’s flight cancellations via a social media post on X and cited operational delays.

The airline remained positive about bookings starting back shortly.

Problems for Go First Airlines continued after the airline announced further flight cancellations on Monday. The airline which has been grounded since May announced an extension of it’s flight cancellations. 

The company informed on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), and said, “Due to operational reasons, Go First flights until 31st August 2023 are cancelled. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and request customers to visit http://shorturl.at/jlrEZ for more information. For any queries or concerns, please feel free to contact us.”

According to a report by ANI, the airline stated that it filed an application seeking immediate resolution and revival of operations. The airline remained positive about bookings starting back shortly.

Go First noted in it’s post that operational reasons led to the cancellation. It added, “We acknowledge the flight cancellations might have disrupted your travel plans and we are committed to providing all the assistance we can.”

This is not the first time the airline has extended the cancellation timeline for it's flights. Earlier, it extended the cancellation of it's scheduled flight operations in June as well.

Problems for the airline surfaced earlier in May when the airline cancelled it’s flights and initiated the application for voluntary bankruptcy before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) citing delays caused by the US-based engine maker Pratt and Whitney, resulting in the company grounding it’s fleet. 

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) allowed the airline to resume operations last month, subject to funding availability and schedule regulations. The DGCA authorised Go First to operate 15 aircraft and 114 daily flights. 

Last month, the NCLT issued notices to Go First’s creditors and insolvency regulator IBBI regarding a plea from about 15.5 lakh passengers who booked flights with the airline on and after May 3 to process refunds worth Rs 597.54 crore.

Notably, the airline reported total operational revenue of Rs 4,183 crore in the fiscal year 2021-22, with an operating force of 4,200 employees.
