Desi Blueprint For Self-Reliant India: This Indigenous Business Model Is Powering Rural Growth

Patanjali says it extends special support to women entrepreneurs by providing training in organic farming and access to digital tools.

Patanjali claims that it is contributing to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) by sourcing raw materials directly from local farmers, digitally empowering them through the 'Kisan Samriddhi Yojana', and supporting women entrepreneurs across the country.

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector plays a critical role in the Indian economy, contributing over 30% to the country’s GDP and generating employment for millions. According to Patanjali Ayurved, the company has been at the forefront of strengthening this sector and promoting local entrepreneurship. Through its various initiatives, Patanjali says it is empowering both rural and urban entrepreneurs while also helping realise the dream of a self-sufficient India.

The company stated, “Patanjali’s biggest contribution is reflected in its procurement of raw materials directly from local farmers and producers. The company sources herbs, grains, oils, and other raw inputs from farmers, thereby increasing their income. This move not only offers economic support to MSMEs but also boosts employment opportunities in rural regions. The Patanjali Food and Herbal Park in Haridwar has become a key hub for local communities, where farmer groups, panchayats, and self-help groups are encouraged to engage in cooperative farming. This has led to job creation for hundreds and improved rural infrastructure.”

What is the Kisan Samriddhi Yojana?

The company further claimed, “To digitally empower farmers, Patanjali has launched the 'Kisan Samriddhi Yojana'. Under this scheme, farmers gain access to cutting-edge technologies like mobile apps that provide smart soil analysis, weather forecasts, and real-time market prices. These tools help them make informed and profitable decisions. In addition, Patanjali has partnered with fintech companies to offer invoice-based financing, enabling MSMEs to access instant working capital. This helps small businesses manage inventory and cash flow effectively.”

Focus on Women Entrepreneurs

Patanjali says it extends special support to women entrepreneurs by providing training in organic farming and access to digital tools. This has opened up self-employment opportunities for women in rural and semi-urban areas. Initiatives like Patanjali’s Swadeshi Kendras and Ayurvedic clinics assist local entrepreneurs in starting and scaling their businesses.

The company’s strategy, it notes, is not just limited to product sales but also focuses on making local communities self-reliant.

Inspiring MSMEs and Local Enterprise

Patanjali asserts, “These initiatives not only boost economic development but also bridge the gap between rural and urban areas. The company’s slogan ‘Prakriti ka Aashirwad’ (Nature’s Blessing) reflects its mission to promote Indian culture and Ayurvedic values. Patanjali’s strategy has positioned it as one of India’s fastest-growing FMCG brands and a source of inspiration for MSMEs and local entrepreneurs.”
